Guatemala leaders meet to discuss institutional stability and financial integrity

Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo met with heads of the judicial, legislative, and constitutional branches at the National Palace of Culture. The meeting included Jenny Noemy Alvarado Tení, President of the Judiciary and Supreme Court; Luis Contreras, President of Congress; and Annabella Morfín, President of the Constitutional Court. The discussions focused on national interests, the respect for the independence of powers, and the shared responsibility to strengthen democratic institutions amid a climate of violence and pre-electoral tension.

Separately, Vice President Karin Herrera presided over a meeting of the National Council for the Coordination of Efforts Against Money Laundering (CONCLAFT). The session addressed preparations for Guatemala’s 2027 Mutual Evaluation by the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT). The initiative aims to enhance the integrity of the national financial system and improve the state's capacity to combat illicit resources, including money laundering and terrorism financing.
