Guatemalan sports authorities clash with Deputy José Chic

A political conflict has escalated in Guatemala between Deputy José Chic and the authorities of the Confederación Deportiva Autónoma de Guatemala (CDAG). The dispute centers on the oversight of remodeling works at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores National Stadium, involving payments exceeding 73 million quetzales.

Deputy Chic, a member of the Congressional Sports Commission, reported that CDAG officials failed to attend two scheduled summons this week intended to clarify the stadium project's progress. In response, Chic has threatened to pursue legal resources if the officials continue to avoid meetings.

Simultaneously, the CDAG has filed a complaint against Chic before the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE). The sports confederation alleges that Chic is using social media to engage in illegal propaganda and to denigrate public officials. This follows similar legal actions taken by the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG), which accused the deputy of using his oversight role to make intimidating and discreditng statements.
