Chiapas authorities warn of irregular Guatemalan transport

Rubén Antonio Zuarth Esquinca, president of the State Congress Mobility, Communications, and Transport Commission, has warned that unauthorized Guatemalan transport units are operating in Chiapas. This irregular activity, particularly in the Comitán region, reportedly poses security risks and creates unfair competition for local concessionaires.

While agreements exist for transit through official crossings like Ciudad Hidalgo and Tecún Umán, officials noted that these vehicles are operating without proper registration or authorization in certain areas. Legislators have called for intervention from state, Mexican, and Guatemalan authorities to address these security concerns and prevent the potential use of unregistered units for illegal activities.
