Guayaquil advances demolition of Multicomercio complex

Authorities in Guayaquil are advancing the administrative process to demolish the Multicomercio complex, a structure officially declared to be in ruins and uninhabitable. The complex, which consists of 463 properties including commercial premises, offices, and residences, poses an extremely high risk of collapse according to technical reports from Segura EP.

Due to the high risk, access to the building has been restricted. Technical inspections have been limited because the dangerous conditions prevent safe internal entry, though experts warn that previous collapses and high temperatures may have significantly compromised structural elements like columns and beams.

The current phase involves legal notifications via press to the owners of 72 properties who could not be reached by hand. Once this procedure is complete, the administration will proceed with the technical demolition as ordered by the Direction of Urbanism, Mobility, Cadastre, and Buildings.
