Guayaquil man sentenced for abusing stepdaughter

A judge in Guayaquil has sentenced 32-year-old Carlos Iván Q. A. to 40 days of imprisonment following the physical abuse of his 9-year-old stepdaughter in the Guasmo Sur sector. The incident, which was captured on video and went viral on social media, showed the man hitting and dragging the child.

Following his arrest by the National Police, the perpetrator was transferred to the Esmeraldas prison to serve his sentence. Authorities noted that the child's mother was also a victim of violence. The case drew significant public indignation and a response from President Daniel Noboa, who stated on social media that “in Ecuador, no one is safe” and emphasized that those who harm children will face justice.

Government agencies, including the Ministry of Human Development, have activated protocols to provide psychological and social support to the victims. The child is currently receiving specialized care in a shelter.
