Guayaquil basketball tournament engages 1,200 youth

In the Sauces II neighborhood of Guayaquil, approximately 1,200 children and young people participate every weekend in the Torneo Interbarrial Diario El Universo. This basketball tournament, supported by the Municipality of Guayaquil, provides a free space for personal development and social cohesion.

Ninety teams compete without registration costs, offering an alternative to local security risks. The event is held at the facilities of the Fundación Enrique “Caballito” Ceballos. While based in Guayaquil, the tournament has gained regional importance, with 40% of participants traveling from other cities such as Portoviejo, La Troncal, El Empalme, and Milagro.

Guayaquil, which has been designated as the American Sports Capital 2026, continues to serve as a central meeting point for various national delegations through such sporting initiatives.
