Ecuador: Protests in Quito and Guayaquil independence celebrations

Ecuador is experiencing significant political and social activity. In Quito, thousands of students and members of the Frente Autónomo de Resistencia Organizada (FARO) marched against the government of Daniel Noboa. The demonstrations, which included students from the Universidad Central del Ecuador, resulted in clashes with the National Police and reports of journalists being physically assaulted during coverage.

In Guayaquil, the city celebrated its 206th anniversary of independence with a solemn session at the Municipal Palace. Acting Mayor Tatiana Coronel announced the opening of the first of 22 planned community dining halls in Monte Sinaí and highlighted improvements in the municipal health network. The Guayas Governor also held a ceremony to honor local individuals and institutions for their contributions to the city's development.

Economically, the government has announced a 4-cent reduction in the prices of regular gasoline (ecopaís and extra) and diesel, effective October 12. This marks the fourth consecutive month of price decreases for these fuels.

Meteorologically, the country faces unstable weather. In Quito, heavy rains and potential hail are expected, with temperatures potentially dropping to 6°C. The national weather service warns of increased precipitation and electrical activity across various regions.
