Guayaquil establishes neighborhood committee network for citizen coexistence

Guayaquil has established a cantonal network of neighborhood committees to strengthen citizen coexistence and public safety. Between 138 and 142 committees have integrated into this structure to act as interlocutors for their communities, identifying local needs and monitoring action plans.

Part of the ‘Plan for Peace, Security, and Citizen Coexistence’ promoted by Segura EP through 2030, the network aims to collect information on neighborhood issues such as the improper use of public spaces and waste disposal. The committees will also focus on the recovery and maintenance of community spaces.

The network is led by a general coordinator, a sub-coordinator, and a secretary, elected by the members for a six-month term. This structure is designed to coordinate directly with municipal departments and companies to ensure timely responses to the specific realities of each sector.
