Guayaquil gas explosion injures several in El Fortín

A gas accumulation explosion occurred on the morning of Sunday, August 23, 2026, in the El Fortín sector of northwest Guayaquil. The blast, reported near Casuarina Avenue, affected multiple properties, including a food establishment and a yogurt business.

Reports indicate that between seven and nine people were injured in the incident. Some victims sustained first-degree burns and required transport to medical facilities, while others received on-site treatment for minor injuries.
