Guayaquil hosts major international weightlifting championships

Guayaquil is hosting a series of major international weightlifting competitions, including the Pan American Championship, the South American Championship, and the first qualifying event for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. The Ecuadorian government has invested USD 105,000 to support the events, which feature delegations from 15 countries.

Ecuadorian athletes have achieved significant success in the competitions. Jordan David Puente secured a gold medal in the Under-20 60kg category at the South American Championship with a total lift of 265kg. Jhon Alexander Matanago also performed strongly, earning six gold medals in the 55kg category across the South American and Pan American championships.

The Ecuadorian delegation includes over 50 athletes, highlighted by the return of Olympic medalist Neisi Dajomes to international competition, alongside other experienced lifters such as Angie Palacios and Lisseth Ayoví.
