Guayaquil municipal agents protest over unpaid overtime

Municipal control agents in Guayaquil staged a protest on October 8, 2026, near the Caraguay Market to demand unpaid wages and overtime. While some demonstrators claimed the city owed them base salaries, others specifically highlighted that overtime pay had been missing for two months, citing difficulties with biometric attendance tracking for operational groups.

In response, Segura EP issued a statement attributing the issue to technical failures in the biometric systems used to record attendance. The municipal company stated that these system inconsistencies led to errors in overtime calculations. Segura EP reported that officials met with the agents to review and correct the records, and that the personnel have since returned to their duties. To prevent future occurrences, the institution announced it will recalibrate the biometric equipment and maintained that all other salary obligations remain up to date.
