Guayaquil police arrest suspect in double homicide tied to gang dispute

On the night of 15 June, police in Guayaquil’s Portete district responded to an alert about two incinerated, bound bodies abandoned on streets 41 and F. Surveillance footage identified a red Chery vehicle used to transport the corpses. The vehicle was traced to 41‑year‑old Douglas David R. L., who was detained in the nearby sector of “La Pista.”

Authorities say the killings appear linked to a territorial clash between criminal groups, possibly involving the “Chone Killers.” The investigation recovered a 9 mm pistol, nine unfired cartridges, a mobile phone and the red car. Colonel Carlos Fuentes, chief of the Portete district, noted that violent deaths in the area have decreased compared with the previous year and that forensic analysis will aim to identify the victims and confirm the motive.
