Guayaquil police conduct security operations at Cerro Santa Ana
The National Police conducted a control and community outreach operation at the Cerro Santa Ana stairs, a prominent tourist site in Guayaquil, on Friday, August 14. The deployment focused on public space supervision and crime prevention.
During the operation, officers engaged in dialogue with local residents and merchants to exchange information and strengthen coordination with neighborhood security committees. In addition to community engagement, police performed vehicle inspections on nearby roads. Walter Villarroel, head of Zone 8 police, described these as ‘mega-operations’ targeted at areas with high rates of common crime and opportunistic robberies, noting that the high volume of visitors at Cerro Santa Ana necessitates such controls.
