Guayaquil promotes local entrepreneurship fair and neighborhood clean‑up efforts

As part of Guayaquil's foundation celebrations, the nonprofit Hogar de Cristo organized the "#ElijoLocal Celebra a Guayaquil" fair on Saturday, July 25, at Parque Samanes. The event showcased dozens of small‑scale enterprises from Monte Sinaí and nearby neighborhoods, offering products such as crafts, jewelry, textiles, gardening items and snacks, and aimed to strengthen the local popular and solidarity economy.

Separately, long‑time residents Virgilio Ojara and Eloísa Merchán, both in their seventies, have turned the façade of their home into a colorful garden using planters made from recycled plastic bottles. Their daily routine of sweeping the sidewalk and timing trash collection aligns with a municipal clean‑up campaign led by the city's sanitation directorate together with Segura EP and Urvaseo, encouraging proper waste disposal and neighborhood hygiene.

Both initiatives illustrate community‑driven efforts to boost local commerce and promote civic responsibility in Guayaquil.
