Guayaquil celebrates 206 years of independence with major investment pledges

Guayaquil is commemorating the 206th anniversary of its independence, an event marking the city's 1820 liberation from Spanish rule. The National Assembly held a solemn session to honor the historical significance of the movement, which served as a catalyst for the broader emancipation of the Real Audiencia de Quito.

During celebrations, President Daniel Noboa announced a historic investment of over 1,000 million dollars aimed at boosting commerce, tourism, and economic growth in the region. Key infrastructure projects mentioned include the Quinto Puente and the construction of a new park in Monte Sinaí. The President also addressed the need for security and institutional strength to combat organized crime.

Local festivities included the ‘Día de las Estrellas’ concert and various civic tributes. Additionally, the city continues urban transformation efforts, such as replacing palm trees with native species like robles and guayacanes to improve shade and biodiversity.
