Guayaquil school tuberculosis case triggers health protocols
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has activated epidemiological surveillance and control protocols in Guayaquil, Ecuador, following a confirmed case of tuberculosis at a private school in the southern part of the city.
The patient, a 16-year-old student, is reported to be in stable condition and has begun medical treatment. A multidisciplinary team is monitoring the patient's evolution and evaluating individuals who had close contact with them. As of the latest reports, no symptoms have been identified among the patient's immediate family members.
In coordination with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, the school temporarily suspended in-person classes, transitioning to a virtual modality to prevent potential spread. In-person activities have since resumed. Education Minister Gilda Alcívar confirmed that both ministries are working together to follow established sanitary protocols and reinforce preventive measures to protect the educational community.
