Guaymas, Sonora launches major infrastructure and housing upgrades

Governor Alfonso Durazo and Mayor Karla Córdova González announced a series of large‑scale projects to modernize Guaymas, Sonora. More than 1,500 new homes will be tendered, with construction of the first 500 homes slated to begin within two weeks. The waterfront promenade (malecón) is 35 % complete, and a new security complex costing 296 million pesos has been built, including a PESP operations base and a child‑care facility.

Investments also target water and sanitation, with two new wastewater‑treatment plants for Guaymas and San Carlos, and the state water commission’s ongoing city‑wide sanitation work. Road upgrades on the Guaymas‑Chihuahua corridor are expected to boost tourism in San Carlos, backed by a 14.58 billion‑peso allocation. Lighting improvements include the installation of 8,068 LED lamps across the municipality. A new ordinary‑regime IMSS hospital, modeled on the San Luis Río Colorado facility and funded at nearly 4 billion pesos, will have its cornerstone laid soon.
