Guayubín commemorates 163rd anniversary of Battle of Guayubín
Authorities and local institutions in Guayubín, Dominican Republic, commemorated the 163rd anniversary of the Battle of Guayubín. The event honored the historical confrontation that took place between August 18 and 19, 1863, between Dominican forces and the Spanish imperial army.
The ceremony included military honors, the raising of the national flag, and a 15-cannon salute at General Gaspar Polanco Park. A mass was also held at San Lorenzo Church to remember the fallen heroes. The battle is recognized as a significant moment in the movement to restore the republic and oppose the annexation of the country to the Spanish Empire under the government of Pedro Santana.
