Branca Hospital performs complex facial reconstruction on teenager

A 17-year-old from Gubbio has returned to a normal life following a complex reconstructive surgical process at the Branca Hospital (Gubbio and Gualdo Tadino Hospital). The patient had suffered severe facial trauma in a road accident in August 2025, resulting in serious bilateral fractures of the orbito-naso-ethmoidal complex.

After initial emergency stabilization at another facility, the patient developed significant post-traumatic complications affecting the left orbit, tear ducts, and nasal cavities. Due to the complexity of the case, several Italian specialists and centers had previously declined to take on the treatment.

Under the care of Dr. Puya Dehgani-Mobaraki in the Otorhinolaryngology Unit, a multidisciplinary team utilized advanced endoscopic techniques to perform a two-stage, minimally invasive reconstructive procedure. This approach allowed for the correction of the trauma's effects without the need for extensive external incisions. The patient's family expressed their gratitude to the medical staff for the successful outcome.
