Głuchołazy faces renewed flooding due to heavy rainfall

The town of Głuchołazy in the Opole region has experienced renewed flooding following intense storms and heavy rainfall. Residents reported that even brief periods of heavy rain caused streets to become impassable and water to enter building basements.

Local residents have identified specific infrastructure failures as primary causes for the flooding, specifically citing inadequate stormwater drainage systems and clogged sewage manholes. One resident noted that pipe diameters decrease significantly in certain areas, preventing the system from handling high volumes of water during heavy downpours.

The incident has triggered political debate regarding the management of reconstruction funds. Opposition members have questioned why residents remain vulnerable despite the allocation of over 360 million PLN intended for flood recovery. In response, government representatives attributed the issues to long-standing infrastructural neglect and the massive scale of investment required for flood defenses and reservoir reconstruction.
