Guéckédou prosecutors demand reports on abandoned public works

The Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance in Guéckédou, Patrice Koma Koïvogui, has issued a formal seven-day ultimatum to local mayors and elected officials regarding abandoned or stalled public works projects.

Following an investigation into the mismanagement of public investments, the prosecutor's office is demanding a detailed report on all utility projects that are currently delayed, slowed, or abandoned. The required documentation must include the project's location, the contracting authority, the identity of the executing company's representative, the contract duration, and the current physical and financial progress.

The investigation aims to identify potential corruption, embezzlement of public funds, or gross mismanagement. The prosecutor noted that significant state funds have been invested in infrastructure such as roads, public buildings, and sports facilities, yet many contracts signed three to four years ago show almost no progress without apparent justification. The legal action seeks to establish responsibility among both the private companies executing the work and the public officials responsible for project oversight.
