Guédiawaye medical intern shot at home during unrest
A 27-year-old medical intern, S. F. Seck, was shot in the abdomen while at his residence in the Fith Mith neighborhood of Guédiawaye. The incident occurred as the practitioner was attempting to close his kitchen windows after hearing suspicious noises outside.
According to the victim's testimony provided to investigators, including the prosecutor of Pikine-Guédiawaye, the shooting did not appear to be part of a direct street confrontation, as he reported no presence of tear gas or smoke at the moment of impact. The projectile entered through a window facing an interior patio rather than a main public road.
In response to the incident, the Association of Interns and Former Interns of Senegalese Hospitals (AIAIHS) has declared 48 hours of ‘black days’ on October 22 and 23, 2026. The association is demanding a full investigation into the circumstances of the shooting and is calling for concrete measures to ensure the safety of medical interns and citizens.
