Águeda Municipality allocates 113,000 euros for rent assistance

The Águeda Municipality has allocated more than 113,000 euros to support 94 households facing financial difficulties with their rent payments throughout 2026. The municipal executive approved the second phase of these subsidies during a meeting on October 15.

The program operates on a tripartite commitment between the municipality, tenants, and property owners. By co-financing rent, the initiative aims to reduce financial pressure on vulnerable families while providing landlords with greater payment security, which may encourage the release of vacant properties into the rental market.

Mayor Jorge Almeida stated that the policy promotes social inclusion by ensuring families can live in dignified housing integrated within the urban fabric. The subsidies are determined based on household income, expenses, and the effort rate. Applications for the 2027 support cycle are currently open and will remain so until December 15.
