Guerrero displacement crisis grows amid Los Ardillos violence

In the Montaña Baja region of Guerrero, Mexico, escalating violence attributed to the criminal group Los Ardillos has triggered a crisis of forced displacement. Residents in localities such as Tula, Xicotlán, Alcozacán, and Acahuehuetlán have been forced to flee their homes to escape attacks involving drones, high-caliber weapons, and explosive devices.

Community organizations and indigenous groups report that hundreds or even thousands of people have been affected, though official government figures remain lower. The violence has resulted in the destruction of communities and the loss of homes, livestock, and crops. Human rights defenders warn that conditions remain unsafe for a permanent return, as displaced families face the risk of being caught in territorial disputes between criminal factions.
