Chihuahua launches hygiene campaign to curb gastrointestinal diseases

The municipal government of Chihuahua, through the Instituto Municipal de Pensiones (IMPE), issued a public health campaign on 1 August 2026 to prevent gastrointestinal infections. Mayor Marco Antonio Bonilla Mendoza stressed that protecting families’ health is a priority and promoted permanent preventive actions and early education. The campaign advises residents to wash hands frequently with soap, consume only boiled or treated water, thoroughly wash and disinfect fruits and vegetables, and cook foods—especially meat, fish and poultry—properly. It also urges anyone with symptoms such as frequent watery stools, abdominal pain, intense thirst or fever to seek medical attention promptly and avoid self‑medication. The initiative aims to improve hygiene practices, reduce diarrheal disease cases, and build a more informed and healthier community in Chihuahua.
