Guerrilla attacks escalate in Colombia's Huila and Norte de Santander
Guerrilla groups in Colombia have intensified attacks against military forces and civilians. In the Huila department, an ambush involving a decoy explosive device left by the FARC resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and injured 10 others in Argelia.
In Norte de Santander, the ELN conducted a drone attack near Ábrego, targeting military personnel and subsequently hovering over a local hospital to intimidate medical staff. Additionally, the ELN kidnapped three DIJIN agents on the road between Cúcuta and Ocaña.
In response to the ongoing threat, the Colombian Army's Ninth Brigade reported that 395 explosive devices have been neutralized in Huila so far in 2026. These operations include the removal of hundreds of meters of activation components and 71 kilograms of explosive materials to protect local communities.
