Horizon Hunters Gathering being rebooted by Guerrilla Games

Guerrilla Games is reportedly rebooting Horizon Hunters Gathering following negative feedback from private playtests. According to reports from Bloomberg, the project is being overhauled to remove its planned live-service elements in favor of a more traditional cooperative multiplayer experience with a story mode and a significantly smaller scope.

The development shift comes as Sony continues to struggle with its live-service gaming strategy, following the cancellation of various multiplayer projects and the commercial failure of titles like Concord. While the game has not been officially cancelled, developers reportedly have until December to reach a milestone that satisfies PlayStation executives to ensure the project's continuation.

Additionally, the restructuring has led to many developers being reassigned to other projects. This has left only a small team working on the next mainline single-player Horizon title, which is expected to be several years away from completion.
