Guest House targets historic Golden Rose victory

The Golden Slipper winner, Guest House, is preparing for this Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill. After drawing barrier five in a 13-runner field, the colt is considered a short-priced favourite.

Trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr expressed confidence in the horse’s condition despite a non-linear preparation. Following a track record win in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes on August 29, the team opted to bypass the Group 2 Run To The Rose to allow for recovery. Kent noted that this training pattern mirrors the successful preparation of Jacquinot, who won the Golden Rose in 2022.

Guest House is attempting to become the first Golden Slipper winner to secure the Golden Rose since the race achieved Group 1 status in 2009. Other notable contenders in the field include Warwoven and St Gotthard.
