Gueta Chapo advocates for support for girls with early pregnancies

Gueta Chapo, the First Lady of Mozambique, has advocated for increased state and community support for girls facing early pregnancy. During a visit to Botswana, she emphasized the importance of helping these young women continue their education during and after pregnancy.

Chapo clarified that such support is intended to assist those in premature unions rather than to encourage early pregnancy. She noted that the challenges of first-time motherhood, especially for minors, require robust social and family assistance to ensure they can complete their schooling and vocational training.

In Botswana, First Lady Kaone Boko launched a maternal and child welfare program aimed at supporting early mothers facing financial and social challenges. Boko expressed a desire to see similar programs replicated across the African continent to address the specific needs of young mothers.
