Guggenheim Museum Bilbao reports high summer attendance and autumn lineup

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao reported a significant surge in attendance during the summer months, receiving 489,971 visitors between June and August. This period marked the museum's second-most crowded summer on record, driven largely by a diverse programming schedule including exhibitions by Ruth Asawa, Jasper Johns, and Igshaan Adams, as well as the Art&Music concert cycle.

August was particularly successful, seeing 209,481 visitors, which is an increase of 14,527 compared to the previous year. The museum also noted a peak attendance of 9,097 visitors on a single day during the week of the solar eclipse. Total visitors from January to August reached 922,113, positioning the museum to potentially reach record-breaking annual numbers by 2026.

Looking ahead to the autumn season, the museum will host several major installations. Starting October 1, Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist will present the immersive video installation ‘Ever is Over All’. This will be followed on October 9 by a presentation from London-based filmmaker Steve McQueen, featuring a cappella recordings of ‘Wild is the Wind’. On November 12, a large-scale exhibition dedicated to New York artist Dan Flavin, focusing on his use of fluorescent light, will open to the public.
