Tottenham Hotspur move to sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes

Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced negotiations to acquire 21‑year‑old Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from relegated West Ham United. Reports indicate the club has submitted a package worth up to €85 million – roughly €65 million upfront with additional add‑ons – which would outbid competing interests from Manchester United and Paris Saint‑Germain. Fernandes has reportedly given his “full green light” on personal terms and is eager to remain in the Premier League.

The midfielder logged five goals and five assists in 42 appearances last season, playing primarily as a box‑to‑box midfielder and has not suffered a significant injury since breaking through at Sporting Lisbon. Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi views Fernandes as a perfect fit for his high‑tempo, press‑oriented system. While PSG and United were also tracking the player, Spurs appear to have gained the lead. The club is also linked with other midfield targets such as Sandro Tonali, after a recent rejection by Aleksandar Stankovic, underscoring Tottenham’s broader recruitment drive.
