Guida Aquino resigns as rector of Brazil's Federal University of Acre after eight-year tenure
Guida Aquino, rector of the Federal University of Acre (Ufac), announced she will leave the post on 11 August, ending an eight‑year administration. In a farewell letter she highlighted the university’s expansion of undergraduate and graduate programs, research, innovation, infrastructure and the challenges posed by federal budget cuts and the Covid‑19 pandemic. Aquino said she will remain at Ufac as a professor and continue to support public, free, quality education.
On 7 May the university held a ceremony marking the near‑completion (90 % physical work) of the new Colégio de Aplicação building, a project funded through federal budget amendments. The facility includes classrooms, a cafeteria, auditorium, a water park, computer labs and Wi‑Fi 7. Aquino and vice‑rector Almecina Balbino praised the project as a commitment to basic education and the future of Acre’s children, while university officials and local officials attended the event.
