Guide Dogs charity seeks volunteers for fostering and puppy raising

The charity Guide Dogs is seeking volunteers to foster and raise dogs to meet increasing demand. The Guide Dogs Exeter Training Centre reported having 27 dogs in training, its highest number in six years.

Potential fosterers are needed for dogs approximately one year old to provide homes for three to six months while they undergo formal training. This process involves the dogs spending time with families during evenings and weekends, while attending training sessions during the week. The charity covers all costs related to food, veterinary care, and equipment.

Additionally, the organization is looking for puppy raisers to care for dogs from eight weeks old until they begin formal training at 16 to 18 months. Puppy raisers help with socialization in various environments, such as shops and public transport. Guide Dogs South West is specifically seeking volunteers in Cornwall, including Newquay and Truro.
