Guidelines for assisting grounded robins and fledglings

When encountering a grounded robin, it is essential to distinguish between a fledgling and an injured adult to determine the appropriate course of action.

Fledglings are young birds that have recently left the nest. They typically have most of their feathers, can hop or flutter short distances, and may have shorter tails. Because parents are often nearby to provide food and protection, the recommended action for a healthy fledgling is to leave it alone or move it a short distance away from roads or predators.

In contrast, an injured adult robin may show signs such as bleeding, broken wings, an inability to perch, or lethargy. These birds require immediate specialized care. In such cases, individuals should provide temporary shelter and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
