Italy mourns deaths of UN peacekeeper Andrea Angeli and others
Several notable figures in Italy have recently passed away.
Andrea Angeli, a prominent United Nations peacekeeper and former official, died at age 69 in Macerata. Angeli was recognized for his humanitarian work in global crisis zones, including Chile, Iraq, Namibia, Cambodia, and Sarajevo, where he famously rescued an Italian citizen during the Bosnian War. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at the Church of Santa Croce.
Guido Martini, a long-time volunteer and former board member of the Cuneo Red Cross, passed away at age 62. He was a key figure in managing the local center for the homeless. He was found deceased in his home, with an apparent heart attack suspected.
Guido Baglioni, a highly respected sociologist of labor and former president of Cesos, died at the age of 97. A professor emeritus at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Baglioni was a significant figure in Italian industrial sociology and trade union culture.
