Guido Castelli outlines reconstruction goals for central Italy

Guido Castelli, the extraordinary commissioner for the 2016 earthquake reconstruction, has emphasized that rebuilding central Italy requires more than just repairing structures; it necessitates creating the conditions for people to remain in inland areas. Speaking at an event in Spello, Castelli noted that addressing seismic damage, demographic decline, and climate change is essential to providing security, services, and employment to combat depopulation.

In addition to community development, Castelli highlighted a major school reconstruction initiative across Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, and Umbria. The program involves approximately 450 interventions with total resources of about 1.4 billion euros. A significant portion of this, roughly 900 million euros, is dedicated to 227 school buildings through a coordinated framework agreement designed to accelerate the rebuilding process and ensure student safety.
