Guido Maria Kretschmer criticizes Berlin's development

Fashion designer and television presenter Guido Maria Kretschmer has shared his reasons for leaving Berlin for Hamburg in 2019. Speaking on the video podcast ‘Dein Ernst’, hosted by Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre, the 61-year-old expressed a critical view of the German capital’s current state.

Kretschmer described Berlin as having become a ‘rough city’ that feels overcrowded and dirty. He specifically noted the lack of sociability and criticized the litter left behind by visitors in areas like Tiergarten. He attributed some of the city's strain to the high volume of annual visitors.

The decision to relocate was also influenced by a near-serious accident during a night of commuting, which prompted him to seek a lifestyle with less travel.
