Italian municipalities implement new urban security and surveillance measures

Several Italian municipalities are implementing new measures to enhance urban security and local police capabilities through technology and increased personnel.

In Guidonia Montecelio, the municipal government has approved the ‘Occhio Urbano’ project, a video surveillance plan valued at approximately 134,000 euros. The administration is seeking funding from the Ministry of the Interior to cover 50% of the costs. Additionally, the city is applying for regional funds to modernize its local police force with a focus on environmental crimes and traffic enforcement.

Reggio Emilia has completed the installation of 20 new surveillance cameras across sensitive areas, including the Villaggio Stranieri and the historic center, to deter micro-criminality. The project includes the deployment of OCR license plate readers at Villa Cadè to improve road safety monitoring.

Viterbo is launching the ‘Viterbo Sicura 4.0’ project, investing 25,000 euros in new video surveillance systems and radio equipment to support its 63 local police officers. Meanwhile, Bitonto has reactivated its motorcycle patrol service to increase police presence, and Bellaria is opening recruitment for new local police instructors to strengthen its workforce.
