Guilherme Derrite leads São Paulo Senate poll amid legislative scrutiny

Guilherme Derrite (PP), a federal deputy and former Secretary of Public Security for São Paulo, has taken a numerical lead in the race for the Senate in São Paulo, according to a Real Time Big Data poll. The survey, conducted among 2,000 voters, shows Derrite with 18% of the votes, though he remains in a technical tie for first place with Simone Tebet (PSB), who holds 17%. Other candidates in the tight race include André do Prado (PL) at 15% and Marina Silva (Rede) at 14%.

In addition to his electoral standing, Derrite’s legislative record has faced scrutiny. Reports indicate he missed 22 out of 26 sessions of the Chamber's Public Security Commission in 2026. Derrite previously authored the ‘Antifaction Law’ (PL Antifacção), a proposal that sought to reduce the jurisdiction of the Federal Police regarding international cooperation against criminal organizations and aimed to remove certain blood crimes from the jurisdiction of the Jury Tribunal. The original project underwent significant changes in the Senate and faced presidential vetoes.
