Guilherme Derrite opposes Alcolumbre for Senate presidency

Senator-elect Guilherme Derrite has announced his opposition to Davi Alcolumbre seeking another term as President of the Senate in 2027. Following recent elections that increased the presence of right-wing senators, Derrite suggested that Rogério Marinho and Tereza Cristina are strong candidates from the right to lead the chamber.

Derrite indicated that formal negotiations regarding the Senate succession should take place after the upcoming presidential election. He emphasized that the new composition of the Senate, which will see the PL party holding the largest bloc with 28 senators, will significantly alter the balance of power.

A key priority for Derrite in the next legislature is the advancement of impeachment proceedings against Supreme Federal Court (STF) justices. He noted that there are currently 109 impeachment requests pending in the Senate and argued that changing the Senate presidency is a necessary prerequisite to ensuring these requests are processed.
