Guilherme Schimidt wins gold at Budapest Grand Slam judo

Brazilian judoka Guilherme Schimidt won the gold medal in the up to 90kg category at the Budapest Grand Slam in Hungary. This victory marked Schimidt’s first Grand Slam final in this weight class since moving from the 81kg division at the end of 2024. In the final, he defeated Serbia’s Boris Rutovic via ippon, securing a rematch victory after previously losing to Rutovic in the Astana Grand Slam.

Brazil concluded the tournament with a total of three medals. Kaillany Cardoso earned silver in the -70kg category, and Sarah Souza secured bronze in the -57kg category. The gold medal win provides Schimidt with 1,000 ranking points, contributing to the qualification process for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Budapest event serves as the final stage of the circuit before the World Championships begin in Baku, Azerbaijan.
