Guillaume Broche cites Attack on Titan as key inspiration for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Director Guillaume Broche of Sandfall Interactive said at a Japan‑based developer event that the anime Attack on Titan was a major influence on the narrative and visual identity of the role‑playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. He highlighted the series’ distinctive uniforms as a design element he wanted to transfer to the game, noting that “when you see any character from Attack on Titan you instantly recognise it because of the uniform.” Broche also mentioned additional inspirations from Studio Ghibli and the anime Bleach. The game, which won Game of the Year last year, now features black uniforms for its main characters that echo the anime’s aesthetic.

The comments were made during a presentation organized by Epic Games Japan in Yokohama, where Broche reiterated his long‑standing admiration for Attack on Titan, describing the series as a “masterpiece.”
