Guillaume Canet releases cult thriller ‘Karma’ starring Marion Cotillard

Director and actor Guillaume Canet has released his ninth film, a psychological thriller titled ‘Karma’, which features Marion Cotillard in a leading role. Canet, who previously worked with Cotillard in films like ‘Les petits mouchoirs’, stated he intended to write a powerful female-led role for the Oscar-winning actress.

The plot follows Jeanne, played by Cotillard, a woman attempting to rebuild her life in a village in northern Spain. After the mysterious disappearance of a child, she flees to France to seek refuge within the cult community where she was raised. The film explores the mechanics of cult influence and domination, centered on a patriarch named Marc, portrayed by Denis Ménochet.

To prepare for the role, Cotillard researched cult dynamics through documentaries and interviews. The film was previously presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
