Guillaume Meyer develops viral AI watermark removal tool

Tech entrepreneur Guillaume Meyer has developed a viral open-source tool called ‘Watermarks Remover’ on GitHub. The project was created in response to Anthropic’s announcement regarding the implementation of invisible AI watermarks.

Meyer argues that the statistical analysis used in AI watermarking techniques, such as those employed by Anthropic and Gemini, poses significant risks. He notes that these methods can lead to false positives, potentially mislabeling human-authored work as AI-generated. For example, researchers might have their papers flagged if they use AI for minor edits, and non-native English speakers using AI-driven grammar tools like Grammarly could face similar issues.
