Guillaume Ngefa plans rehabilitation of Shinkakasa prison in Boma
Guillaume Ngefa Atondoko Andali, the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, is considering the rehabilitation of the former Shinkakasa military prison in Boma, Kongo Central province.
Built before independence, the site was originally a strategic military installation before serving as a military prison. It has since been decommissioned due to inadequate infrastructure. The proposed project aims to modernize the facility to meet current penitentiary standards, focusing on increasing capacity, improving ventilation, upgrading sanitary facilities, and enhancing security measures.
This initiative is intended to improve detention conditions, respect the dignity of inmates, and help alleviate prison overcrowding within the country. During his inspection, the Minister also addressed land tenure concerns regarding the Kachinka military concession, specifically regarding the occupation and fragmentation of state-owned property.
