Guille Gaunas-Vivas delivers custom 3D-printed wheelchair to child in Cádiz

Guille Gaunas-Vivas traveled from Madrid to Cádiz to deliver a custom 3D-printed wheelchair to Juanito, a child living with a rare neurodegenerative disease. The specialized chair was designed to allow the child to visit the beach, a specific request from his family.

To ensure the chair met the child's exact needs, his existing postural seat was 3D-scanned and then reproduced through printing. This process allowed for a highly personalized fit that maintains the child's upright position. The project is part of ‘Ayúdame 3D’, an initiative that develops and provides free 3D-printed assistive devices for children with disabilities and rare diseases.

The designs used by Ayúdame 3D are based on MakeGood concepts and have been refined through feedback from families and professionals. The chairs are validated by the Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Service of the Hospital Materno Infantil Gregorio Marañón in Madrid. These models are noted for being lighter, easier to maneuver, and more adaptable to children's heights compared to standard adult-sized models.
