Guillermo Arias Leads Merit List to Replace Córdoba Judge Marta Vidal
The Council of the Magistrature of Córdoba concluded a public competition to fill the vacancy in the province’s electoral court left by retiring Judge Marta Vidal. Guillermo Arias received the highest score, 85.06 points, placing him first in the merit list. The process involved personal interviews with 17 finalists, with Diego Frossasco, Emilia Mimessi and María de los Ángeles Nallín rounding out the top four. Arias, a longtime legislative secretary linked to the provincial Peronist bloc, will be proposed to the governor, who must forward the nomination to the unicameral legislature for final approval after a three‑day public hearing for any objections.
The selection sparked political controversy. National senator Luis Juez questioned Arias’s neutrality and the transparency of the process, while Facundo Torres, leader of the Hacemos Unidos parliamentary bloc, defended the merit‑based competition and Arias’s technical qualifications. If no challenges arise, Arias is set to assume the judicial post on 1 September.
