Guillermo Bellingi found dead amid corruption investigation

Guillermo Alfredo Bellingi, a 55-year-old former sub-director general of the Procuración General de la Nación and current professor at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, was found dead in Villa Elisa, La Plata.

Authorities are investigating the death under the heading of “averiguación de causales de muerte” (investigation of causes of death). The primary hypothesis is suicide, as Bellingi was found with a knife and a backpack, and the fatal wound was located near the heart with no visible signs of struggle.

Bellingi was scheduled to face an oral and public trial before the Federal Oral Court No. 8 in less than three weeks. He was an accused party in a corruption case involving irregularities in the 2013 purchase of a building at Perón 600, which served as the headquarters for the Procuración General de la Nación. The investigation into that real estate transaction also involves former prosecutor Alejandra Gils Carbó. The legal proceedings against the other accused individuals are expected to continue.
