Guillermo del Toro expresses interest in returning to Pacific Rim

Director Guillermo del Toro has expressed interest in returning to the Pacific Rim franchise. During a Reddit AMA held in conjunction with the re-release of Pan's Labyrinth, del Toro stated, “I would love to go back,” noting that the intersection of kaiju and mecha is his “sweet spot.”

Del Toro reflected on the technical challenges faced during the production of the original 2013 film, mentioning that advancements in VFX and virtual sets could potentially overcome previous bottlenecks. He described his creative approach to the film using terms like “GothTech” and “Smart-Stupid,” emphasizing the importance of treating the fantastical premise with utmost seriousness.
