Guillermo Maripán ordered to appear in person before Chilean court
Guillermo Maripán, a defender for the Brazilian football club Internacional, must travel to Chile to appear in person before a court on Wednesday, September 30. A Chilean judge rejected a request from Maripán’s defense to allow him to testify via videoconference from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
The defense argued that remote participation would prevent unnecessary disruption to the player's professional training schedule, providing documentation from Internacional to support the claim. However, the Fourth Guarantee Court of Santiago ruled that videoconferencing is an exceptional measure and determined that physical presence is necessary for the hearing.
The legal proceeding is part of an investigation into the alleged unauthorized disclosure of intimate images. The case was initiated in April 2025 by Carmen Andrea Castillo Vergara, who alleges that Maripán violated her privacy by attempting to share intimate content with a Chilean news portal in January 2025, while he was playing for Torino in Italy. The upcoming hearing serves to formally communicate the facts being investigated to the defendant.
